Helping you reconcile unconsciously driven behaviors, decisions, and mental processes with conscious goals and resolutions!

My Candidacy: Is Hypnotherapy Right For Me?

In short, you may be a good candidate for hypnotherapy if your purpose is to make a voluntary, desired change to the way your mind behaves (e.g. its reactions under a set of conditions) at the unconscious level or to deepen your commitment to make a change in a higher receptivity mental state.

Hypnotherapy is based on the concept of distinguishing between the conscious aspect of our minds (the thoughts and decision making processes we are aware of as they occur) and the unconscious aspect of our minds (the instinctual, habitual, and intuitive processes, that generally occur without ongoing mental effort or continuously noticeable awareness), and on the principle that our minds constantly and naturally vary our mental states to both internal and external stimulus in regards to how active the conscious function is relative to the unconscious function.

Many of the things people seek out hypnotists to help them change arise from a habitual behavior or lifestyle decision they perceive as self-destructive, unwise, or otherwise unwanted, but feel powerless to change.   This is often an example of a conscious-unconscious disagreement that hypnotherapy is designed to address by inducing a mental state where primarily the unconscious mind processes the experience (sometimes called trance, similar to how one might experience driving a car along a familiar route without detailed perception of the minutia of operating that car) and then guides the unconscious mind towards concepts from which it should better sync with the beliefs and values the client has consciously identified and requested upon which the desired behavioral pattern is based.

Based on neuropsychological research that the unconscious mental faculties posses about 275,000 times more mental processing capacity than the conscious ones, hypnotherapists can also help their clients improve their performance in pursuit of a goal or task by calibrating the unconscious mind to that goal or task so that more creative insights can occur relative to that goal or task compared to what the conscious mind's directed analysis would produce in a less engaged frame of mind.

Benjamin's Qualifications

While learning about hypnosis has been a hobby for Benjamin since his early teens after he discovered how helpful it was in addressing and coping with some of his medical disabilities, and he learned some of the theory through various books and audio home study programs, Benjamin started his formal training in the related discipline of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) with the intention of improving his personal and professional communication skills generally rather than to practice the business of hypnotherapy.

That changed during a transitional phase in the process to enter his primary profession as a lawyer, when Benjamin decided to diversify his professional skillset and service offerings by recently building upon that foundation with both additional NLP training and with trainings to learn hypnotherapy and become certified.  Benjamin has to date completed roughly 120 hours of classroom training in NLP and roughly an additional 200 hours of classroom training in hypnotherapy not including the exam/certification process, plus 12 hours of 1-on-1 coaching, and hundreds more hours of self-study training programs.

Benjamin is presently certified by the International Association of Professional Conversational Hypnotists in both the foundational "Conversational Professional Hypnotherapy" techniques and the "Ericksonian Hypnotherapy" style based on the methods of the legendary late hypnotherapist Dr. Milton Erickson, and additionally in the specialized technique of "Ericksonian Hypnotic Metaphors."

Benjamin is also certified by the Association for Integrative Psychology as a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Aside from Hypnosis and NLP, Benjamin earned his Bachelors in Business Administration from San Jose State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law.
